Hermán, a not so creepy monster.

The world is amazing when you are lightly strange.

Herman, 8 inch natural fibers art doll

By this time last year I was already making Christmas babies but this time I am enjoying too much my Halloween ones. I have been wanting to make a Frankenstein’s monster baby in natural fibers for a while now, but I was a little scared that it was not going to be liked by most of my followers. This year, I just want to make what fills my heart with joy and this baby surely does. It has taken me forever to take his photos and I keep blaming it on the weather but I think we all know I just want to spend a little more time with him.

What should you expect of Herman? Well, he sleeps a lot, mostly because he needs electricity to charge and come to life. You see, this baby was born way too soon and didn’t make it alive but one of the doctors refused to accept this, so he experimented with him until he found a way to give him life again. By that time the body was already starting to decompose, the reason for his the coloring. Don’t worry, he doesn’t smell or anything. Once he brought this little baby to life, he bathed him, and his body kind of starting reacting to his new life. The only thing is that he has to be connected to a power source for a couple of hours (that is what the screws are for), to be able to take life for the same amount of time he was connected for. That is why he sleeps so much. But then again, he’s a baby, a premature one also, so sleeping most of the day is expected.

How did I get this baby? Well, the doctor tried to give it back to the family but they wouldn’t take the baby back. So he started looking for a home for him. I heard the news and I offered to find him a home, so here we are. Herman is a sweet heart and he just wants to be cuddle when he’s awake. He’s very curious, loves songs, and books, and toys, just like real babies do. He doesn’t really need food, but he enjoys some every now and then. He’s starting to taste things so we are not sure about favorites just yet.

Herman, 8 inch natural fibers art doll

Baby Hermán is an almost 8 inch natural fibers baby boy doll. His skin is organic cotton interlock hand dyed to a grayish green color, his limbs and torso are firmly filled with clean wool. His head is wobbly not really floppy. His legs and arms are floppy on the shoulders and thighs. Arms are sewn directly to the torso three times for extra strength. Legs and torso are one piece. His face is firmly needle felted, soft sculpted, and hand embroidered with cotton embroidery floss. Herman’s hair is a black wild brushable mohair wig cap sewn to his head. His head screws are made with gray wool felt and hand sewn to his head. He’s fully soft sculpted with some special details to resemble Frankenstein’s monster but in a much cuter version. His blushing was made with a red beeswax crayon and it is not permanent. You will get a little piece of cloth with some blush so you can retouch it if necessary.

Herman is not a toy. He’s an art doll intended for gentle play by an adult collector or an older child 10 and up. He likes to play and cuddle and even though he is made as sturdy as possible, you need to be gentle with him like you would be with a real baby.

Hand wash only.

Hermán will go home with only his diaper and his ghost lovie. I will be making him a blanket to wrap him so he doesn’t get cold while traveling.

If you would like to see more photos of Hermán you can see them in his album.
