Baby Butterflies

Spread your wings and fly.

Fleur and Oak, 7 inch Waldorf Inspired Dolls

I just came back from a relaxing little vacation with my sister. She came to visit and we spent 4 days at the beach, relaxing and drinking piña coladas and margaritas. Watching our kids play together was the best part of all. Oh how I wish we could live closer. I was a little emotional when we said goodbye and my little girl held her tears up until all of them were gone, she didn’t want them to see her cry. Can’t wait until we meet again very soon.

When we got home today, we found a wonderful surprise; butterfly babies! Well, I’m not sure what to call them, so I call them that. They were both hiding inside one of my big ferns. I believe they were scared of the cat. They have huge wings that they can take off, and they can certainly fly. I had to catch them carefully because they started to fly all over. It took some time to reassure them that they were safe with me. I think they understand now. These little ones love plants, especially the ones with flowers. They always fly around the plants and lay to rest on them. I think with all this heat, plants are fresh and cool. Since I have so many plants in my studio, I have been keeping them there so the cat does not get them. I tried to set them free outside (that’s where we took all these photos) but they come back to me every time. I think they want someone to take care of them. I am doing it for now. I actually made them some clothes and a cocoon to sleep in, but I really need to find them homes. I have enough kids as it is, plus every month a batch of new babies are born in my studio. I couldn’t possibly take care of them too. If you think you can adopt one of them please keep reading.

Now let me tell you a little about these cuties. The little boy I named Oak. He’s curious, a little mischievous but very loving. He likes to play jokes on everyone and surprise you when you least expect it. Then he laughs and giggles. He’s so cute you can’t possibly get mad at him for it. I think he knows it too. If you are thinking of adopting Oak, you should know that he likes for you to stroke his hair until he falls asleep. Even though he’s very loving, he doesn’t like to be cuddled when he’s trying to sleep. He needs his freedom, haha! Oak loves flying, playing hide and seek (he’s very good at it), and dancing to almost anything. He enjoys eating fruit, especially kiwis. He makes friends pretty easy and I find him playing with the other babies in my studio all the time. You can say he’s a cool kid.

Oak is a natural fibers art doll 7 inches tall. His skin is Heavy weight Laib Yala in a dark peach color. His body has been stuffed with clean carded wool and his torso has been lightly needle felted. His head has been made in the classic Waldorf style with some needle felting to make it firmer. The head is not as floppy as my other dolls mostly because of his size. His legs and torso are one piece but the legs can bend to help him sit and pose. His arms have been hand sewn to his torso three times for extra strength. His eyes have been hand embroidered with DMC cotton embroidery floss. Oak’s hair is a rust color big loop mohair crocheted wig cap that has been hand sewn to his head. This style of hair cannot be brushed. He has a sculpted belly button and a cute little tushie.

I named the baby girl Fleur because I feel she looks just like a flower. Fleur, is a delicate somehow different kind of butterfly. She’s really easy going and goes with the flow. She’s also a very cool girl but in a different way. She’s sweet and caring and all the other babies love her for that. She never plays jokes on anyone but seems to comfort everyone around her. Fleur likes listening to music and stories, relax, and unlike Oak, Fleur enjoys to cuddle before and while she sleeps. Fleur’s favorite fruit is Dragon fruit but she really enjoys just about any fruit you give her. She does not like sleeping alone but she’s totally happy sleeping with her caterpillar plushie. They have bonded pretty well.

These dolls are made to be as sturdy as possible but some of their clothes and accessories are more delicate. That is the main reason they are considered art dolls.

Oak and Fleur are not toys for small children. They are meant to be played only by children 7 and up that do not mouth their toys anymore and can play with their clothes gently. Their clothes have snaps and buttons that can become choking hazards to small children.
