Vanessa, a sleeping baby girl ready for cuddles.

Being positive does not mean ignoring the negative. Being positive means overcoming the negative.

-Ralph Marston

These last couple of weeks have been a little challenging for me. A series of unfortunate events (I love that movie by the way, hahaha) happened. My bank blocked my account, my husband was forced to close his food truck, my daughter dropped my dslr camera and my lens completely shattered, my toe nail had to be removed and now I have to get treatment because apparently something is wrong with it. However, things are slowly turning around. My account was finally unblocked a couple of days ago. I found an old lens, that even though it is for photographing things farther away it will do for now. My nail does not hurt anymore and I will start treatment tomorrow. And my husband is looking for a new, hopefully better place to park his food truck. Also my dad told me he will gift me his camera when I go visit them in August, because he doesn’t use it anymore. So everything is getting back to place, so I am happy and trying to focus on that.

There are also some highlights this month. For instance my baby boy turned 3. I can hardly believe how big he is. He seems to be growing at a faster rate than my daughter did. He talks so much, can do so much by himself, he was even fully toilet trained before turning 3. It is so bittersweet. I love the little boy his turning into but I also feel like I needed more time with my little baby. Time goes so fast and it makes me wonder if that is the reason I love baby dolls so much. Baby dolls don’t grow old and I can enjoy the baby stage for as long as I need to.

Now let me tell you about the baby girl I just finished. I know the more you do a task, the better you become at it and I can definitely see it in my dolls. I’m getting better at felting faces and this time I even tried a new nose shape that I totally love. I must say I am not a fan of big noses on baby dolls. I feel like a big nose can make a baby doll look more like an old person than a baby. But hey, that is just my opinion. The thing is that making this shape and still keeping it small was a bit of a challenge for me, but I am very happy to say I love the results. I got the defined button nose I wanted for Vanessa’s baby face.

Even though Vanessa’s outfits are more on the simple side, they are also full of details, like embroidery, lace, and a knitted bonnet that took me forever to finish. There is something about the simplicity of the designs combined with the small details that make her outfit stand out.

What you should know about Vanessa? Well, even though she sleeps most of the time, she’s a terrible sleeper at night. She wakes up every hour. Sometimes she’s thirsty, sometimes she needs a diaper change, and other times she just wants to make sure you are there, so she cries until you wake up and talk to her. She’s used to co sleeping with us so if you are not a co sleeper there might be some long nights ahead of you if you decide to adopt her.

Vanessa loves to be sang to sleep. Old Disney songs work really well, she loves them. She also likes to be tapped on her bottom to help her sleep. Vanessa prefers listening to music rather than watching TV. She likes yogurt with raspberries and chocolate chips. She’s not much into toys but she likes stuffed animals and dolls. She specifically likes to lay them dow to sleep next to her. She’s still very young, so sleeping is a big part of her day. I just wish it was the same at night, haha!

Vanessa, 17 inch Natural Fibers Art Doll

Vanessa is a 17 inch natural fibers art baby doll. She’s fully soft sculpted and anatomically correct. Her skin is Heavy Weight Laib Yala in light brown. Her limbs are fully lined and firmly filled with clean wool and glass beads. Her torso is needle felted in two parts and weighted with glass beads. Her head is floppy but still has some support. Her arms and legs have been hand sewn to her torso three times to make it extra strong. They are very floppy as well and bend at the elbows, shoulders, thighs, ankles, and knees. Her head is firmly needle felted and soft sculpted in the mouth and nose. Vanessa’s hair is a hand crocheted wild brushable mohair wig. It was originally white but I hand dyed it to this dark brown color. Her hair can be gently brushed and restyled. Her blushing has been made with colored pencils and chalk pastels.

Vanessa is not a toy. She’s an art doll intended for gentle play by an adult collector or an older child 10 and up. As with most of my art dolls, she loves to be cuddled and held but just like you would be gentle with a real baby, you need to be gentle with her. She’s easy and fun to pose and feels great to hold too.

I wasn’t able to make a video for her because the lens I have now makes everything look too close and it didn’t work for the video. However you can check out a video of how Vanessa moves in my Instagram page @lachulonadollsolls
