Did you know?
The ocean gets its saltiness form the tears of misunderstood sharks who just want to cuddle.
I didn’t really research the quote above, LOL! But it could be true.

I’m here again bringing a new baby boy looking for a home. I was told I work pretty fast. I guess because I have a new doll every week. However, what people don’t know is that I work 9.5 hours 5 days a week and 3 to 4 more hours during my days off. So to make a small baby doll like this one I work 30 hours at least. Sometimes even more. Especially when I can’t get something right, which was the case with this little guy. I had to make his shoes and his romper at least three times. I didn’t count that time as working hours of course, but I lost a whole day learning how to not mess them up. In the end they came out nice. Not perfect of course, but special, very special. The reason I work this way is because this is the main income in my household at this moment. So I work most of the day while my husband takes care of the house and the kids. I’m hoping to have more free time soon, when my husband’s business starts making a profit. Which I’m certain it will. He’s amazing.
As with all my recent dolls, I tried something new with this little soul. I needle felted his body into a different shape. I tried to simulate the little hollow part between the rips and the belly. I think it looks pretty cute. I also always have a hard time making wild brushable hair for boys. So this time I only cut a little at the front and decided to keep working on other things until I could think of how I was going to finish cutting his hair. When I was ready to start and took his bonnet off, most of his hair had already felted and I think it looks so cute and perfect for a boy. Of course you can brush it if you don’t like it, but I really hope you like it.

Now let’s talk about Fernando. This little boy can fall asleep anywhere. He’s such a good sleeper and sleeps through the night since day one. Oh how I wish my real baby boy would do the same. I think I made Fernando projecting my wishes, lol!! Fernando loves the sea, he loves boats, and specially sharks. He thinks they are adorable. I try to tell him they are also dangerous, but he says they are just misunderstood. Fernando loves sleeping but he does it even better when he’s listening to ocean waves. His favorite food is coconut ice cream. I only give him the organic kind. His favorite animals are sharks and his favorite song is … Baby Shark of course. This is the main reason I had to make him a little shark as a traveling friend. I made him as cute as I could, so he doesn’t freak his new family out.
Did I tell you how I found out his name yet? Well, since the moment I started making the wool ball for his head, I couldn’t stop singing “Fernando” the song from Abba. I kept trying to make the harmonies and all, hahaha! I don’t know what got into me. So when I finished him, I realized he was trying to tell me his name all this time. I just couldn’t hear him with all my singing, lol. So there you have it, how this little dreamer got his name.

Fernando is a 12 inch natural fibers baby doll. His skin is Laib Yala in a dark peach color, he’s firmly stuffed with clean wool. His torso has been needle felted. His head is floppy and needs to be supported, just like a real newborn baby. His legs and torso are one piece but the legs are floppy because of the way they have been sewn. They can also bend at the knees. His arms have been sewn to his torso three times to make it extra strong. They are very floppy as well and bend at the elbow and wrist. His head is made in the traditional Waldorf style with some needle felting to make it firmer. His sleeping eyes have been hand embroidered with DMC cotton embroidery floss. Fernando’s hair is brown wild brushable mohair crocheted into a wig cap.The crochet cap has been hand sewn to his head.

Fernando is a play doll for children 5 and up that do not mouth their toys anymore. His clothes have snaps that can become choking hazards to small children.
Fernando is made to be as sturdy as possible. However, small children’s play should always be monitored. Never leave a small infant unattended with a stuffed toy.
Fernando will go home with the following clothes and accessories:
- Handmade diaper with snaps.
- Handmade envelope shirt.
- Handmade footed overalls.
- Hand crocheted bonnet.
- Hand crocheted booties.
- Handmade romper with hoodie.
- Handmade shoes made with a pattern by Fig and me.
- His baby shark
If you would like to see more photos of him, there are 22 in total because he’s pretty photogenic, you can see them here in his album.
Here is also a little video of him getting changed into his favorite clothes, of course his sleeping clothes.
