Yuna and Adela, two very different sisters.

Being different is one of the most beautiful things on earth.

-Unknown

Here are the first two babies of my very new chapter as a doll maker. If you follow my Facebook or Instagram accounts you already know what I’m talking about. If not, let me just say I am taking my doll making more seriously and giving it the respect it deserves.

I really took my time with these two and made each of them in a slightly different way but at the same time very alike. I think the fact that I changed a couple of things while making each one of them, is what made them have such different personalities. They are very cute and sweet and unique in their own special way.

Adela and Yuna, 11 inch Waldorf inspired dolls

Let’s start with baby Yuna since she is the oldest, the snack lover, the shyest of the two, and the chubbiest of them too. I think that part is due to all the snacks. haha! Yuna loves animals, especially bears. She actually has a way with animals and they all seem to love her, though she has never met a bear, so I’m not sure how it would go. Some of Yuna’s favorite things are graham crackers, teddy bears, playing with miniature dolls and animals, and napping. She is very shy and she may take a little time to warm up to people, but once she feels comfortable she will be eating your whole pantry so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Yuna was made with a slightly sturdier neck. I wanted to see how thick I could make the neck and still get a wobbly head. I did this mainly to make it easier for me to avoid wrinkles on the neck. Usually the thinner the neck is, the more you have to work to get rid of neck wrinkles. Yuna proved that I can make a much thicker neck than before and still have some movement on her head. Though I must say it is not a lot of movement. She’s not able to turn her head sideways but she can still tilt it to the sides. She’s one of the sturdiest doll I have made though. She’s actually pretty good for rough play.

Now let me introduce you to Adela. She’s the younger one and the one I almost didn’t make. You can say she was the unplanned baby. Adela is not a shy baby though. She’s actually very outgoing and just lets everyone hold her. She’s a hugger too. She will also go into your purse and take everything out. She has no boundaries and thinks everything she sees is hers. She’s also kind of a leader. She’s the one that starts the games and gets everyone else to play with her. Adela’s favorite things? She loves flowers, rainbows, playing, playing, and more playing. She also loves animals and bears, I think that is the one thing that she shares with her sister. Adela loves berries, especially raspberries but it has been a little hard to find them here lately. Hope you have better luck in your part of the world.

Adela came out a little skinnier than Yuna. I did use a different fabric with her and also made her neck a little thinner to give her more movement (still no wrinkles). I think those two changes is what made her slightly smaller than her sister. Her neck has more movement and she can slightly move her head to the sides and her head will tilt to the sides mostly by itself.

Yuna is an 11 inch baby girl. Her skin is Heavy Weight Laib Yala in light brown. Her black eyes have been hand embroidered with DMC thread, and her hair is a mohair wig that has been restyled and hand sewn to her head. Her blushing was made with an orange/red beeswax crayon and is not permanent. She is a natural fibers doll, filled with clean wool. Her head has been made in the traditional Waldorf style but has also been needle felted to make it firmer. She can bend her arms at the shoulders, elbows, and wrists. She can bend her legs at the hip and knees. Her head is wobbly and can tilt to the sides.

Yuna will go home with the following clothes and accessories:

  • Handmade long sleeve shirt with snap closure (Pattern by Fig and Me )
  • Handmade diaper with snap closures.
  • Handmade linen pants with hand embroidered detail (Pattern by Fig and me).
  • Handmade head band
  • Handmade double gauze footed sleeper with snap closures(Pattern by Wild Marigold)
  • Hand crocheted bonnet
  • Hand crocheted booties with buttons
  • Wool blend felt black bear traveling friend.

Even though this doll was made as a collectible piece it is also made to be strong and sturdy and for play by children who do not mouth their toys. However, there are snaps on the diaper, shirt, and sleeper, as well as two flower buttons on her booties. These could all turn into choking hazards. If you are planing to give this doll to a small child and would like me to change the snaps and button for velcro, please let me know. I will gladly change them.

You just need to comment if you would like to adopt her. I take entries for her until Wednesday at 3pm CST. If more than one person comments for her I will draw a name and sent an invoice to the person chosen. You can read all the details in this blog post and make a decision. If you decide you would like to be considered to adopt her, just comment again. That time the comment will not be shown to others, only to me. Thank you for your interest.
