Madeline wants to be a unicorn.

Always be yourself unless you can be a unicorn, then always be a unicorn.

Madeline, 12 inch natural fibers doll

I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the summer heat. I have been very busy with custom orders lately and of course I also wanted to make a special baby too. This time I’m taking custom orders I little bit more relaxed and allowing myself to take breaks from them to work on other projects. I have found this to be much more productive as I have much more time to think and make decisions. New ideas and designs come to mind and I’m enjoying the process so much more than when I used to just focus on one doll. I will soon show you some of my custom work but right now I want to show you my new baby girl, Madeline.

Madeline was born during a rainy week. We couldn’t really do much outside so we turned into books and songs and made up stories and dreamed of new fantastic worlds filled with fairies and unicorns. I think that is where she gets her love of unicorns from. You see, Madeline believes so much in unicorns that she’s certain she can become one when she grows up. People tell me I should stop this nonsense and tell her that unicorns are make believe. I have to say I am not even sure they are. I think you don’t need to see something to believe in it. So why can’t she believe in unicorns? Who can prove to me they are not real? Who says she cannot turn into one when she grows up? She started as a little ball of wool and now is a cute little doll, so yes, magic is real, it happens every day even if we don’t notice it. If you believe in something as much as Madeline believes in unicorns, you should understand. Why take the magic away from a child. I think that is just plain cruel.

Madeline has been made with a slightly altered pattern of my 12 inch baby dolls. I just decided to make the pattern a little chunkier, not much. Just so you all have a little more baby to squeeze and love. I also made her hair with 2 different yarn colors, just to make it a little more realistic according to myself, hahaha! It has a mix of black and brunette colors and I really love it. I think I want to do this more often.

Madeline is a 12 inch natural fibers baby doll. Her skin is Laib Yala in red brown color, she’s firmly stuffed with clean wool. Her head is floppy and needs to be supported, just like a real newborn baby.  Her legs and torso are one piece but the legs are floppy because of the way they have been sewn. They can also bend at the knees. Her arms have been sewn to her torso three times to make it extra strong. They are very floppy as well and bend at the elbow and wrist. Her head is made in the traditional Waldorf style with some needle felting to make it firmer. Her black eyes have been hand embroidered with DMC cotton embroidery floss. Madeline’s hair is a big loop wild mohair crocheted into a wig cap with some loop crochet stitches to make her hair more wild. She has two tones of yarn, black and brunette. The crochet cap has been hand sewn to her head.

Madeline is a play doll for children 5 and up that do not mouth their toys anymore. Her clothes have snaps and buttons that can become choking hazards to small children.

Madeline is made to be as sturdy as possible. However, small children’s play should always be monitored. Never leave a small infant unattended with a stuffed toy.
