Raggedy Babies

The beauty of handmade is in the imperfection.

Anita and Andrés, 7 inch natural fibers dolls

Greetings to everyone. I have finally made some more raggedy babies. If you have followed me long enough, you probably remember the first raggedy doll I made. It was about 2 years ago. When I made her I had full intention of making more of her. I even had a boy planned. However, for some reason I kept pushing it back and I never got back to it. Well, the time has come to show you my new raggedy dolls. These time I made them brown because, well, why not. There are not many brown raggedy dolls in the world so that makes these extra special. Don’t you think?

First of all we have Anita, my Spanish twist of the name Ann. Anita has been so excited to get adopted. She gave me no trouble while I was making her. It was like she was making everything easy for me. I guess she was ready to be born. Anita enjoys the rain, being born during a storm will do that to you. She also loves the color pink and she matches it to any color really. She likes to get dressed up and go out in a pocket or purse. She loves watching everything while walking. Anita loves to play and create with her hands. She enjoys all kinds of activities that include fabrics or papers. She might be a doll maker when she grows up. One can only hope.

Baby Anita is a 7 inch natural fibers baby doll. Skin is Heavy weight Laib Yala in dark brown color. Torso is made with fully lined cotton jersey. Limbs and torso are firmly filled with clean wool. Head is not floppy but wobbly. Legs and arms are floppy on the shoulders and thighs. Arms are sewn directly to the torso three times for extra strength. Legs and torso are one piece. The head is firmly needle felted even though it is made in the shape of a Waldorf doll. Face is soft sculpted on the mouth, and hand embroidered with DMC cotton embroidery floss. Anita’s hair is a hand crocheted cotton yarn wig cap. It has been hand sewn to the head. This hair cannot be brushed. The embroidered heart on the body has also been made with DMC cotton floss. Ears are hand sewn to the head. Blushing was made with an red beeswax crayon and it is not permanent. You will get a little piece of cloth with some blush so you can retouch it if necessary.

Andrés, 7 inch natural fibers doll

Now let me introduce you to Andrés. This sweet boy loves to cuddle under the blankets and play peekaboo with them. Andrés enjoys helping with house chores, that is his favorite form of playing actually. I’m not sure how long that will last. However, because he is so young sometimes helping turns into making a huge mess, but we love it and encourage him all the time. Andrés favorite color is all of them really. If you want to win him over, some green grapes will do the trick. Just make sure they are seedless, we don’t want him to choke.

If you would like to see more photos of the babies, you can do so here.

These babies are hand wash only.

These dolls have been made as sturdy as possible but their outfits includes buttons that can pose as choking hazard for little kids. That is why these dolls are for adults and children 5 years or older that do not mouth their toys and can be gentle with the dolls.
