Holiday wishes made with gingerbread hugs and peppermint kisses.

Are you ready for a very sweet doll? Meet Canela. My new Christmas baby and probably the sweetest. This is the first time I make an actual gingerbread baby doll in wool, and glass beads I guess. I had made soft sculpted and regular rag doll gingerbread babies before but never out of wool. Even though I always had the vision in my head, I was also a little scared of messing her up. I guess wasn’t sure of my skills then, so I waited until I felt more confident about how cute she was going to be. I must say I am happy I waited because I love how she turned out. I think she has such an innocent expression that matches her sweetness almost perfectly. Well, I might be a little biased here. haha!

Well let me tell you more about Canela and how she came to be. Have you read the story of “The Gingerbread Man”? When I was a little girl, my aunt bought me this book, read it to me, and then actually made gingerbread cookies with me at her house. We made a whole event out of it. I even stayed in her house just for this. I must admit I never really liked the gingerbread cookies, but I have the nicest memories of baking them with my tití.
And so because of this I decided to make just one ginger bread man cookie. I wanted to have that wonderful smell around the house, and decorate it like I did so many years ago. I decided to decorate it as a girl and once I was finished, the cookie started to cry. I was in complete disbelief. I mean a lot of magical things happen around here, but a cookie? Well, I finally got myself together and discovered, that I apparently made a gingerbread baby. I quickly covered her with a napkin and she stopped crying. I think she was just cold. Her appearance started to change and she turned into this sweet baby you are seeing now. I know this sounds crazy but I also know I was very lucky to get a baby that is not running away from me, because honestly, I have no interest to eat her. Well I don’t think she’s edible anymore.
Now I need to find Canela a home. One where she is not going to get eaten of course. She would also love to go to a home where there is a lot of baking, sweets, Christmas lights, and hot chocolate. I know, she is a little demanding, but who can say no to that face.

Canela is a 7.5 inch gingerbread baby girl. Her skin is DWE in red brown. Her eyes, eyelashes, nose, buttons, and swirls on her body and head were embroidered with DMC thread. This doll is fully lined. Stuffed with mostly glass beads for weight and some wool on feet, hands, and buttocks. The head was made in the classic Waldorf style and then completely needle felted to make it firmer. Mouth is soft sculpted. She has a sculpted bum.

Canela will go home with most of the clothes and accessories you see in her photos. All handmade by me.
- Handmade linen, cotton, and lace pinafore.
- Hand crocheted cotton diaper
- Hand crocheted cotton booties
- Hand made lace headband with hand crocheted cotton peppermint candy
- Gingerbread man crochet doll
You can see more photos of Canela in her album.
