Amina Amanita, a special fairy.

Fairies are invisible and inaudible like angels. But their magic sparkles in nature.

Amina, 4 inch fairy baby doll

I know Christmas season has just started but for La Chulona, it just ended. The last three babies that will be for sale this Christmas, are non Christmas themed but just as magical and cute.

Starting with Amina Amanita, a cute little mushroom fairy we found in our garden. Fairies are usually found at the top of trees where we can hardly see them. So what was my surprise to find this little fairy near the roots of an Elephant Ear plant where a bunch of mushrooms started growing a couple of days ago. She was sleeping inside what looked like a cut out, hollow mushroom. She was dressed very uniquely, like she was a mushroom herself, though you could see by the wings and ears that she was actually a fairy.

I didn’t want to disturb her so I made sure I watched for cats but let her sleep and kept and eye on her. And that is how I learned that she was actually a mushroom fairy. I have seen many mushroom gnomes over the years but fairies, not so much. I think this is the second one I have ever seen. She doesn’t seem to have the same powers as a mushroom gnome. It is more as if she grows from and takes care of mushrooms. I am really not sure, because she seems to sleep a lot too. However, the closer she is to mushrooms the more beautiful they grow. I tried it with different mushrooms I found and it worked every time. I also tried it with flowers, and trees, but it doesn’t seem to have the same effect, though I have noticed some fungus growing just wherever I placed her. I gave her the name of Amina Amanita because it just made sense to me.

So why is Amina looking for a home. Well, even though cats don’t seem to be attracted to her, possums do, and we have a lot of them coming and going in our neighborhood. I already had to save her twice from a possum attack. I think they just want to eat the mushroom but she is inside it so I can’t let them do that. I’m keeping her inside for now but you all know babies are constantly being born here, so I really can’t keep them all. I think Amina will be happier and safer in a new home.

If you would like to adopt Amina you should know she prefers dark, warm, and somehow wet places the best. She sleeps a lot for now. I think it is because she is still a baby but I cannot be completely sure. She likes to be held and sleep warm in your chest or cupped hand. Amina loves animals, especially frogs and she can eat almost anything you give her.

Amina is a 4 inch baby fairy. Her skin is organic cotton interlock in its natural color. The brown freckles were painted with a micron pen and the brown spots were painted with fabric paint. The embroidery on her face and body was made with DMC thread. Limbs and torso are filled with clean wool. Head is floppy . Legs and arms are floppy on the shoulders and thighs. This is a string jointed doll. The limbs are attached to the body with upholstery thread for better movement. The head was made in the classic Waldorf style with some needle felting to make it firmer. Mouth is soft sculpted, and eyes are hand embroidered with DMC cotton embroidery floss. Her hair is a wild brushable mohair wig, hand sewn to her head. Fairy ears are hand sewn to the head. The doll has a soft sculpted belly button and bum. The wings are made with wool felt and tulle. They are hand sewn to her back. Blushing was made with beeswax crayons and it is not permanent. You will get a little piece of cloth with some blush so you can retouch it if necessary.

Amina will go home with the following clothes and accessories, all handmade by me:

  • Handmade cotton velour diaper
  • Handmade linen and cotton dress
  • Hand crocheted cotton collar
  • Hand crocheted wool blend booties
  • Hand crocheted cotton hat
  • Hand crocheted mushroon box (pattern by Sweet Softies)
  • Hand crocheted tiny frog (pattern by Lucy Ravens Car)

If you would like to see more photos of Amina, you can do so here.

Amina is spot clean only due to the fabric paint.

This doll is not a toy. This is an art doll meant for adult collectors or for older children 10 and up that can play with her gently. Fairies are delicate beings so they need to be treated with a lot of care.
