“Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them.”
– George Eliot

I am arriving to the end of my Halloween babies. This one is not so much a Halloween baby than it is a Day of the Dead baby. This baby is inspired in Mexican tradition and culture. I must say Día de muertos is one of the most beautiful traditions I have experienced. Before I moved to Mexico I though it was something creepy because I didn’t really understand it. Once I moved here, experienced it, and learned more about it, I completely fell in love with it. It is a beautiful way to honor and remember our loved ones that are no longer with us. It is believed their spirits are allowed to visit us just one night a year and it is a celebration. A day to experience with family, remembering the life of those that are gone and even telling them about our lives so they don’t miss it even after death.
This tradition has helped my little girl deal with her favorite uncle’s death because it allows her to feel his presence at least once a year and talk to him and maybe miss him a little less. I am not a religious person but these magical stories fill my heart with hope. So I choose to believe.

So now it is time to meet Amor, my first wool sugar skull baby. I wasn’t sure if it was a boy or a girl so I gave it a neutral name, Amor, which literally means “love” in Spanish.
Amor is a sweet sugar skull baby that seams to be lost. I wish I could ask what is it doing here, but this baby seems to be too young to answer. I can’t help to feel a little sad but also hopeful about seeing a baby sugar skull. A sugar skull baby represents a baby that is no longer here but still comes to visit his or her parents. I am not sure if it will disappear after Día de Muertos or if it is meant to stay here with us like some other sugar skulls I have found over the years. We’ll see.
The thing is I need to find a home for this baby because, as most of you know, the holidays are coming and lots of babies will be born these days. I can’t take care of Amor properly and I would hate for him/her to be alone during the Day of the Dead.
Things you should know about Amor. Amor is non verbal, loves cuddling, looking at people intensely, and playing with voodoo dolls. That is why I made this sweet voodoo baby to travel with. This baby does not need to eat but loves music, especially Son Jarocho, especially when the harp is playing.

Amor is an 8 inch natural fibers baby doll. It’s skin is Organic Cotton Interlock in its natural color. His limbs and torso are filled with clean wool. His head is floppy. His legs and arms are floppy on the shoulders and thighs. Arms are sewn directly to the torso three times for extra strength. Legs and torso are one piece. His head is firmly needle felted, soft sculpted, hand painted with fabric paint, decorated with wool felt, and hand embroidered with cotton embroidery floss. His body is also hand painted with fabric paint. Amor is fully soft sculpted.
If you would like to see more photos of Amor you can do so here. Amor’s Album
This baby is not a toy. This is an art doll intended for gentle play by an adult collector or an older child 7 and up. Amor likes to play and cuddle and even though it was made as sturdy as possible, you need to be gentle with it like you would be with a real baby.
Spot clean only.
Amor will go home with only her Voodo baby doll. I will also be making him/her a little cocoon so he/she can travel comfortably.

Amor’s adoption fee is 310 USDollars plus shipping. Shipping inside Mexico is free with standard mail with tracking (It can be upgraded to Mexpost or private courier at the customer’s expense). Shipping outside Mexico can be either by priority shipping or a private courier. Shipping to the US through priority is 35 usdollars. Other parts of the world will need a revised shipping quote. Customs fees and taxes are the responsibility of the buyer.
If you wish to adopt Amor make sure to fill out the form at the end of the post. If you are unsure that your entry went through, just send me a private message and I’ll confirm it to you.
Please only fill out the form if you are completely sure you want this doll and are able to pay for it in full at the moment.
I will take entries for Amor until, Saturday October 5, 2024 at 4pm CST (Mexico City Time). If more than one person is interested I will draw a name. Once a family has been chosen I will send a PayPal invoice that is due upon receipt. Because I know we all live in different time zones, the person that gets selected will have until Sunday October 6, 2024 at 4am CST to pay for the invoice. If they fail to do so, I will draw a new name.

I hope this sweet sugar skull baby makes you want to learn more about this beautiful tradition.
Have a wonderful day.
Read you soon.
Hugs,
Aubrey
